St Jacques des Guerets is on the banks of the Loir and has a 12th century church with murals dating from the 12th and 13th centuries which were discovered in the 1890s. Across the river is the town of Troo which has many points of interest including Troglodyte dwellings, 12th century church, ancient well (that speaks), and the walls of an ancient leper hospital.
There are also a few restaurants, art galleries and a post office in Troo. Montoire-sur-le-Loir is approximately 6 kilometres away and has doctors, dentists, vets and supermarkets as well as numerous restaurants, bars and small shops selling a variety of goods. There is also a twice weekly market in the town centre.
Further afield are Tours (approximately 50 minutes drive away) which is on the river Loire and has a local airport with flights to destinations which include Stansted, and the Medieval city of Le Mans (approximately 1 hour away) with its cathedral, many sights of historic interest and the 24 hour car race.
